June 21: Embrace of This Summer Day prayer

Enfolded in the embrace of this summer day,

gathered with one another in this place of justice and compassion,

celebrating our most deeply held values and commitments,

we pause now to sense the spirit of life itself

emerging from the spaces between us,

emerging from this sacred space itself,

emerging from our longing for more love, more peace, more joy

not just for us but for all who suffer here and around the world.

We pause now for a moment of silence to feel ourselves enveloped

in the spirit of life and love that we invoke each time we gather.


May we feel held by our roots in this life-giving community.

May we be set free by the wings of the spirit that moves among us.

And may we work to set in motion stirrings of compassion and justice for all.

Amen!

January 30: Awfully Cold

The minus sign in front of today’s temperature in degrees Fahrenheit seems like a judgement as much as a measure, as if the thermometer were saying that it’s so awfully cold, we can’t place it on the acceptable range of measures, can’t imagine how it relates to anything like normality. But the weather, uncaring, goes on, utterly heedless of our ability to cope with it.
