February 20: Snow in February

Thunder began as I lay down

to sleep late last night, rumbling

through Pittsburgh’s hills and valleys,

bringing noisy rain that pelted windows

and washed away remnants of piled snow.

Thunder in February doesn’t happen often,

but, when it does, it occurs purposefully,

announcing to one and all that something

big is happening and it’s happening now.
